Update for Bad Bill

As it looks, right now Senate Bill08-047 has received a tie vote in committee. According to the votes page on the bill the motion failes on a tie vote and the bill has been postponed indefinitely. What that means to us is no new tax increase on people wishing to get married. State Rep. Frank McNulty said that this bill was '... an attack on married couples." He was right on in saying that and I personally would like to thank Rep McNulty for his assistance for killing this bill.

Bad Bill

Hello my fellow Conservatives. I have some sad news about a bill in the Colorado house. This bill will raise the tax on new marriage licenses by 200% to pay for a child abuse program. Good idea but raising the tax on people who are wishing to get married is not the answer. The bill is Senate Bill08-047. Please email your current reps and great conservatives to encourage them to vote no.
here is the website for the bill http://www.leg.state.co.us/Clics/CLICS2008A/csl.nsf/BillFoldersSenate?openFrameset
Thanks for your time

The following statement is located on his website http://www.tomwiens.com/

“SENATOR WIENS THANKS CONSTITUENTS FOR SUPPORT!

Dear Fellow Republican,

It has been a great honor for me to represent you in the Colorado State Senate for the past four years and previously in the House of Representatives.
In just a few days, I will complete my sixth legislative session representing the people of the fourth Senate district. I want to thank you for the opportunity to represent you in the State Senate and I also want you to let you know that I have decided not to seek another four year term in the Colorado Senate.

Over the last six years I have gained a great deal of experience and understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing Colorado. I remain committed to working with you to help make Colorado the best possible place to live, work and raise a family. I also know that there are many ways to contribute to the future of Colorado as a private citizen.

It is my hope that the experience I have gained in the Senate will help me be of even greater service to you, the Republican Party and the people of Colorado in the years ahead.

Thank you again for allowing me the privilege of serving you in the Senate and I hope to have the opportunity to serve you in the future.

Sincerely,

Senator Tom J. Wiens
P.S. My term ends in January, 2009. If I can be of service to you at anytime in the future, just give me a call! Or email me at mailto:tom@tomwiens.com. Also, check out my website if you get a chance at www.tomwiens.com.”
